West End Real Estate – Homes and Condos For Sale

Vancouver’s West End is the trendy part of the city that includes the downtown core, Yaletown and Coal Harbour. It also borders the city’s iconic Stanley Park. Officially, Burrard Street is the eastern border, Denman Street edges the west and West Georgia Street is the northern border. Vancouverites include everything from Stanley Park to Burrard Street.

Once forested wilderness, and during the mid 1800s intended to be used as a porcelain clay mine and brickworks, the area came of age when the Canadian Pacific Railway arrived in Vancouver. The railroad’s western end was in Coal Harbour, making the surrounding West End prime development land for the most elaborate homes in Vancouver. Most of these mansions were owned by wealthy railroad families.

The financial district started to expand and eventually Vancouver’s upper classes started building farther away from the downtown core. More middle class homes and multi-unit structures started to show up in the West End.

Today this densely populated and ethnically diverse part of Vancouver is a draw for singles and families of all ages. Robson Street provides endless shopping and dining possibilities as well as a number of high-end hotels. Two elementary schools, Lord Roberts and the Lord Roberts Annex, service the area. The King George High School is also within the borders.
