Coal Harbour Real Estate – Homes and Condos For Sale
Part of the Burrard Inlet that fronts Stanley Park and the Financial District of downtown Vancouver is known as Coal Harbour. It once was simply that, a harbour that just happened to be the site of a coal discovery. Now the name refers to the upscale community filled with high-rise, high-end condominiums. On the eastern edge is Deadman’s Island, home to the HMCS Discovery, a training facility. The Vancouver Harbour Water Aerodrome is also in Coal Harbour.
The area itself is bordered by Burrard Street on the southeast, Pender and West Georgia Streets on the southwest and the acreage of Stanley Park to the northwest. The northwestern end features plenty of open parkland, some private marinas and a number of boating and rowing clubs. Gregory Henriquez was the architect on the area’s community centre.
Looking towards the southeast, much of the skyline is that of high-rise apartments and office towers. Between Georgia and Hastings Street is Vancouver’s business district. Along West Pender Street, once called Blueblood Alley because of its affluent residents, are several large mansions dating back nearly a century. Coal Harbour is also home to six floating homes, some of the few legal ones within Vancouver city limits.
